
On 11 March 2026, the President of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICAC), Mr Mykola Selivon, together with the Vice-Presidents of the ICAC, Ms Inna Yemelianova and Mr Volodymyr Nahnybida, met with representatives of the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The CLDP delegation included Ms Raquel Martinez Sloan, Attorney Advisor (International Programs) at CLDP, and Mr Levy Latoz, International Program Specialist. The meeting was organised with the support of the Ukrainian Arbitration Association, whose President, Mr Serhii Uvarov, also took part in the event.

During the meeting, the ICAC leadership and CLDP representatives held a comprehensive discussion on matters related to the development of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in Ukraine. Particular attention was devoted to strengthening cooperation between institutions active in the fields of arbitration and mediation, including in the context of future initiatives related to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
During the meeting, the CLDP representatives presented the key objectives and areas of activity of the Commercial Law Development Program, including strengthening the system of alternative dispute resolution, developing the institutional capacity of regional arbitration centres, and improving the overall environment for the resolution of commercial disputes.
For their part, the ICAC representatives presented an overview of the development of international commercial arbitration in Ukraine and the current legal framework governing its operation, which is based on the Law of Ukraine “On International Commercial Arbitration”.
The ICAC representatives also shared statistical data concerning the activities of the Court, including:
- the annual number of international arbitration cases administered by the ICAC;
- statistics on court challenges to arbitral awards;
- the principal sectors of the economy from which disputes typically arise;
- the role of the ICAC and the Ukrainian Maritime Arbitration Commission (UMAC) at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the resolution of international commercial disputes.
Special attention was devoted to potential areas of further cooperation between the ICAC and CLDP.
In particular, the participants explored prospects for cooperation in the following areas:
- development and implementation of digital tools and technological solutions in arbitration proceedings administered by the ICAC;
- conducting expert analysis of the regulatory framework governing the resolution of investment disputes;
- strengthening the institutional capacity of the ICAC in the context of resolving disputes related to Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, particularly in sectors such as investment, infrastructure recovery, and construction;
- organisation of joint events, training programmes, and professional platforms aimed at fostering a sustainable expert community in the field of commercial dispute resolution.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their mutual interest in continuing dialogue, further developing cooperation, and implementing joint initiatives in the field of international arbitration and mediation.
