ICAC Joined the Discussion on AI Use Scenarios in the Practice of Attorneys

On 24 February 2026, the UNBA NextGen Youth Committee held a webinar entitled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Practice of Attorneys: Benefits and Risks.” The event brought together 360 participants, half of whom actively participated in the discussion throughout the webinar.

Moderated by Kateryna Dovhopolska, a lawyer and representative of the UNBA NextGen Youth Committee, the discussion was joined by Oleg Dubno, an AI expert and the manager of the AI department at the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, and Volodymyr Nahnybida, a Vice-President of the ICAC, a licensed attorney, and an arbitrator.

Oleg Dubno focused on the key principles of responsible use of AI by lawyers, debunking common myths about AI in the legal profession, as well as the risks of using generative models, in particular the phenomenon of “hallucinations,” bias, cyber risks, and the problem of the so-called “black box.” The speaker separately addressed issues of confidentiality, the need to obtain client consent when using AI for data processing, as well as aspects of intellectual property and the legal regime of AI content. Oleg Dubno once again confirmed that a high-quality prompt is a key tool for effective and safe work with artificial intelligence systems.

Volodymyr Nahnybida focused on the practical integration of AI into everyday legal practice. According to the speaker, artificial intelligence is not a competitor to lawyers. Instead, competitors are the attorneys and companies that have already mastered the skills of effective AI use. At the same time, confidentiality, professional responsibility, and mandatory verification of the results obtained remain key.

Volodymyr Nahnybida demonstrated practical scenarios for using AI to webinar participants: working with email, preliminary analysis of cases, analysis of legislation in different jurisdictions, structuring evidence, identifying logical errors and weaknesses in legal positions, translations, and text editing. The speaker also told the audience about the technique of working with role models, using AI as an “opponent” when preparing for a cross-analysis of the other side’s position, and the importance of moving from the “Google paradigm” of search to correctly formulated analytical queries.

Volodymyr paid special attention to the corporate integration of AI: the implementation of a single digital space (one space approach), the formation of internal policies for the use of AI, the creation of the role of an AI manager or technical group, as well as the advisability of introducing declarations on the use of AI when preparing documents.

In addition, Mr. Nahnybida highlighted the ICAC’s commitment to digital transformation, in particular the development of a comprehensive online dispute resolution platform as a single digital environment for the administration of arbitration cases. The platform will provide for the electronic submission of applications and procedural documents, scheduling of hearing dates, full-fledged work with electronic case materials, a mobile version of the application, centralized communication between participants in the process, and other functionality aimed at improving the efficiency and transparency of arbitration proceedings.

Participants were particularly interested in issues related to ensuring attorney-client privilege and personal data protection when using AI services networks, the legal status of correspondence with AI and the possibility of its use as evidence, the risks of “hallucinations” and the need to verify results, the selection of optimal tools for lawyers, criteria for their evaluation, as well as the impact of AI on the future of the legal profession.

The active discussion and numerous questions proved that using AI in legal practice has already become an integral part of the professional agenda of today’s lawyers.

The ICAC continues to pay systematic and close attention to opportunities for improving the consideration and resolution of disputes using the most effective technological solutions, in particular those based on artificial intelligence technologies.
