ICAC – 30 years of best international standards of arbitrating disputes

In 2022 the International Commercial Arbitration Court (ICAC) commemorates its 30th anniversary.

At the times when Ukraine is forced to defend its territory as well as the values of democracy and the rule of law with weapons, the ICAC mission – transforming Ukraine into a leading arbitration seat in Eastern Europe and reenforcing Ukraine as a pro-arbitration state –  has never been more relevant.

ICAC has shaped a professional community of Ukrainian arbitrators and arbitration lawyers, recognized by the leading international professional rankings. Since its establishment, the ICAC has been resolving disputes in accordance with the best international standards and acting as a unique platform for professional discussions and an important source of education in the field of international arbitration for legal and business communities.

30 years of efficiency. The ICAC’s statistics evidences the effeciency of the ICAC year by year.

The ICAC remains one of the most experienced arbitration institutions in Eastern Europe, with an average of 250-300 cases per year. On average, less than 1 % of ICAC’s arbitration awards is challenged. The ICAC’s awards are successfully enforced in more than 100 countries, and the parties resolving disputes in ICAC involve the representatives of over 50 countries.

30 years of pro-arbitration policy in Ukraine and progressive approaches to the development of arbitration.

The ICAC promptly responds to external challenges. The ICAC develops and adopts amendments to the Rules when necessary to regulate new needs of arbitration proceedings, such as online hearings, electronic filing, and others. The ICAC is now working to expand the use of mediation services to its users, updating the ICAC’s Recommended list of arbitrators with experts from foreign jurisdictions, experienced in resolving investment, corporate, construction and IT disputes.

Representatives of the ICAC are involved in the work of all parliamentary, governmental and international working groups on the development of legal regulation in the field of international arbitration.

30 years of international recognition. The competitiveness of the ICAC in the region, the comfort of arbitration services for parties and arbitrators, significant achievements in equal representation of women in arbitration is highly ranked by the international professional community, in particular, the ICAC is:

  • Recommended in the White List of Arbitration Institutions Worth a Closer Look by the most authoritative international publication – The Global Arbitration Review (GAR).
  • №1 in the world in equal representation of women in arbitration according to the results of the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge;
  • The finalist of the Best Developments Awards by The Global Arbitration Review (GAR).
