On 23 May 2024 the ICAC delivered a practical seminar to Ukrainian exporters “International arbitration for protecting business interests: the practice of preparing and concluding foreign trade contracts and resolving disputes”.
The event was organized in partnership with the International Platform Nazovni.
In her opening remarks, Inna Yemelianova, the Vice-President of the ICAC and the UMAC, noted that arbitration of international commercial disputes was a significant stimulus for export and international trade development. Olena Kuts, Education Manager of the International Platform “NAZOVNI”, emphasized the importance of the extraordinary efforts being made by Ukrainian exporters to support the economy and foreign currency earnings to Ukraine during the war.
Volodymyr Nahnybida, the Vice-President of the ICAC, explored the topic “Reliable International Commercial Contracts”. Mr. Nahnybida provided the participants with a detailed overview of the characteristics of reliable foreign trade contracts and practical advice to help avoid payment and currency risks.
The following subject for discussion “Advantages of International Arbitration for Resolving Foreign Economic Disputes” was presented by Tetyana Slipachuk, a member of the ICAC Presidium. She highlighted options available for resolving foreign economic disputes and the basic principles of international commercial arbitration. The seminar participants also learned the essential elements to include into an arbitration clause.
Inna Yemelianova discussed with the audience the criteria for choosing an arbitration institution, in particular, why the ICAC at the Ukrainian CCI is a natural choice for Ukrainian exporters. Ms. Yemelianova briefed the participants about the ICAC’s key facts and figures, arbitration fees, as well as the advantages of alternative dispute resolution methods: Mediation-Arbitration and Arbitration-Mediation-Arbitration.
